Carrie: Sorry, I misread what you wrote. Banning fabulous marriage is ridiculous, but these things have, so far, been decided by plebecite. Bush genuinely doesn't believe in fabulous marriage (nor do the American people), so why should he go against his beliefs?
Also, abortion is *legal* in the US. Did you mean "pro-life" people?
Most of the US's more backwards social positions have popular support, the death penalty for instance, has 60-some percent in a recent poll.
