Can anybody else say "typical fantasy hokum?".
Whilst a d-mod with that depth of story implemented could indeed rock, the most important thing by far is the implementation of the story.
You don't need a great storyline for a great d-mod. In fact, the more complicated it is, the harder it will be for the player to understand what is going on.
But I do like the idea of the mythical Wheel of Time, guarded by the Magi for millenia.
