I work with a LOT of scientists, and the clear message is that this A.) isn't a ridiculous conspiracy, and B.) has the potential to get much, MUCH worse if not handled properly. I've heard expectations from some of my coworkers that New Zealand's quarantine will last far longer than a few months if they consider the research, and that we might be isolated until a vaccine is produced.
This isn't a good thing for governments. This is going to cripple them too. This is bad for everyone.
As for me, as a kiwi too I'm also in quarantine. Thankfully, I have decent job security, so unless my parent company goes under, I'm still making a decent wage.
