2nd generation. No easy way to be free. 
Thoughts on an "alternate reality" version of the original game:

While it might be entertaining to play a few of this type of game, I am not in favor of it being the basis of the contest.

It's (probably) true that this type of dmod would be easy to produce and therefore we might expect more contest entries than usual. That would certainly be one reason to consider it as a contest theme.

On the other hand, we would also have a number of dmods that might be too much like each other to be interesting. For me, a major part of the joy of playing a new dmod is discovering what form of new lands and magic, and such Dink (and the player) get to explore together. Also, the main part of my joy in playing a new dmod is the enjoyment I get from hearing a new story that involves our somewhat incompetent and silly hero. Do you think this simple idea of retelling the original story will produce more interesting tales? I'm skeptical of that being a real outcome. Can't we be a bit more creative?
