That doesn't sound so weird. It just sounds like your face really didn't do it for her, to be honest. And even if it was some kind of weirdo, what possible harm could they do with a picture of your face? They could print it out and throw darts at it, I suppose.
However, snapchat and such things definitely aren't safe. Don't ever put anything you would hate to see spread anywhere near the internet. The way the internet works is that everything you see is downloaded to your computer (or phone), so even if there are some measures to prevent you from accessing a file, you still have the file on your computer; it's possible someone might be able to figure out a way to access it.
In the case of snapchat, I believe it's trivially easy to save a picture.
