With the amount of games being produced today, if you can't find anything you like you aren't looking hard enough.

Don't know about that. Just looked through a list of every game released and about to be realeased this year. Really, there's only about three games I'll even bother to mention. The rest of it is indeed pretty awful.

There's Banished. It looked to be good, so I downloaded it for free, but after about two days it just kinda fell flat. Then there's Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty!, which is a nice throwback but mostly just a rape of the original masterpiece. Lastly, there's Among the Sleep. I watched a playthrough of it, and as a game it looks to suck quite hard, but it proves that video games can be a form for amazing art.
