Where did you get your installer? There are companies out there that offer downloads for some popular (usually open source) software but bundle in some adware. They then pay google some money to get traffic through the search results and get money from the adware. My father had this when installing firefox, apparently the first link in google (an advertisement link) went to a company that offered a firefox+adware package. When downloading free programs always make sure you get it from the official source, there are people out there trying to profit from the hard work of others.
