You guys should look at some of their other updates too. The trailer is half a year old by now, and the game has improved a lot since then. They already have pretty much everything the trailer promises, just not in a finished state. Which is to be expected, since they have a minimum of year and a half left of developing. They've already been developing the game for two years, and the people at Warhorse have a lot of experience behind them. They've also got some big deals going on already, so they definitely know what they're doing.

The Kickstarter wasn't actually to fund the game (although it also did a bit of that). Warhorse had an agreement that if they could raise 500,000 dollars, their private investor would trust that there's demand for the game, and would continue funding them. The Kickstarter reached over a million dollars. Kickstarters are always risky, yes, but these guys are taking the attitude that since they get to create the game they've always wanted to, thanks to the donators, they now owe us a great game.

This game doesn't exactly look like a game that doesn't fit the marketspace, but I'm sure the development of such a game takes a lot of time and money.

Actually, believe it or not, they said that they couldn't get any traditional publishers because of fears that a game without dragons and magic wouldn't sell. This is when their private investors stepped in. But since the private investors doubted this too, the Kickstarter was put up to see if there'd be demand for the game. Which, as proven by the million dollars, there indeed is.
