It probably doesn't help that the death sequence comes before the walk sequence in the sprite queue, for whatever reason, and we all assume (without viewing the sequences' frames) that the walking comes first.

It's probably cause the Spikers don't have 4 walking sequences like most sprites, and have two death sequences, so they had to find some place to stick them to.
