I'm pretty sure the bible says something to the effect that, if a girl is found to be less than a virgin upon first marital coitus, it's the sacred duty of the whole community to stone her.
On the other hand, the old testament has no problem with having multiple wives and concubines and getting it on with slave girls on the side, so I really don't know what conclusions to draw from this book.
(Other than perhaps this isn't the sanest of works to use as a moral guide after all)
