That's a cool point. Why lose faith over something like that though, isn't it just a convenience thing? It would be annoying if you had to interact with everyone you pass by in a city, when you could be meeting hundreds of people. Most people do at least return a greeting, although there are some who just stare back with a blank expression. (But I think that's just because they're so unaccustomed to being greeted, not because they want to be rude.)
