My guess about the skull:
The goblin Trog was a fearsome goblin warrior, whose main interest in life where, war, devise evil plans, and collecting warhammers. His son, Pog, on the other hand was a complete failure by goblin standards.
Already at early age there was no doubt that Pog shared none of his fathers interest. But Pog was the only heir, and inherited the territories when Trog passed away.
Pog squandered his inheritance, spent tremendous amounts of money on various love interest. Low on and cash and desperate for love, he considers the to sell the skull of his father, which he always carry around (because it brings luck, according to goblin beliefs), and so it became that the skull of the great warrior Trog got lost.
Prog died 45 years old, killed and eaten by a mermaid.
