Let us save our effort and just lie down and die.
Sometimes companies release games as freeware ie: Grand Theft Auto 1 & 2, Red Alert, Command and Conquer and The Elder Scrolls: Arena. Although I personally feel that using ROMS is bordering on piracy, I also realise that the majority of ROMS and Emulators are old, no longer available consoles/ games, so ROMS are hardly a threat to the big game companies unlike ISOs of games such as Sims 3 or Dragon Age, which lost millions of dollars to piracy.

Now, to say piracy is ok coz you probably wouldn't have brought it anyway is pure bullshoot. You probably would have shoved it done your' pants if torrents or rapidshare didn't exist... I would've (past tense)
Think about it: Dragon Age comes out, costs $99. You look at the game and it's trailers and think it looks cool. Now, you don't want to pay for the privilege of playing the game, so do you simply never play a commercial game again?

If piracy simply didn't exist but you didn't want to pay for a game, you might borrow a friend's copy, steal from a store or coerce your' family into buying it for you, or protest to the company about the high price - two of those options are illegal, two unlikely to be successful. If you're like me, you just wait 3 years then grab Mirror's Edge for $2 from Dick Smith's Clearance basket
