Yeh, common drivers like DirectX and Visual C thingy. I'm all out of ideas at the moment. I had the exactly same error. I could zoom in to an empty square but it would crash when I moved to an edited one. It was probably my DMODs map.dat that was corrupted. Luckily I had a backup.
EDIT: Might be something wrong in your registry. Did you uninstall Dink Smallwood v1.08 correctly?
