No, it is possible. I have played the game through like 20 times (yeah, biggest fan ever) and always done it that way without cheating. So, no, it is not impossible. Go ask Sabre, but I have beaten the game like the walkthrough says.
EDIT: And what would be the point of collecting all the scrolls, if you weren't supposed to go to the Temple of the Ancients yet.
