GlennGlenn doesn't want a custom title.
Don't count on it, many of the new Dinker's are young, and I would believe that those over 20 have been there (Striker, Sabre, etc). I am going to the military in June next year. I can't wait, it's gonna be ever so fun.

I was a conscript in the military for 6 months in 2006. It was pretty unfun at the time, but looking back at it now I kinda wish I'd stayed there longer.

Mostly consisted of hurrying to wait somewhere, smoking cigarettes and having nothing to do, though.

Daniel, there are clowns.
Having issues with being told to kill people so that rich, greedy old men can be richer, greedy old men... my answer is an emphatic no.

I mean really, the government just doesn't pay well enough for any sane person to do something like that

I was in the Navy, not too terrible. Saw some decent ports in other countries and didn't have to worry too much about getting shot at in a Sub.

The sub itself is more of a danger to you then anything else.

It's mostly the doing nothing part that got to me, waiting hours for the trainers to arrive or being ordered to stand in a foxhole for the entire day, when it's several degrees below zero but still raining water and you're soaking wet. It wasn't so bad when it was much colder, it was easier to stay dry and even if you got wet the clothes would freeze and still help to keep the cold out.

All in all though, it was pretty easy and the atmosphere was sort of tolerant. Some trainers did like yelling at you a lot but I didn't really witness any bullying and a lot of people didn't break down and cry uncontrollably, which is what the military SHOULD do to you.

endy when were you in the navy? you lucked out to be doing something that had anything to do with boats or the navy. my buddy is a seabee and his ass was in baghdad for a 12 month tour and pretty much has the same to look forward to. it seems to me like its becoming more and more that other branches are just support for the army because it cant even handle itself right now

as for sane people not wanting to join the military first of all im probably not sane and im 100% against iraq war so why did i join? try making a living in detroit in the worst state out of all 50 in terms of unemployment the industry there is a joke so if you wanna change things how can you do it by sitting on your ass, i used to work in a garage 10 hour days hating my life. now i can say i have even the OPTION to get a college degree.

you would be surprised how many u.s. soldiers are against the iraq war... i would say all of them who arent redneck right wingers

Not me, and I graduated highschool in

1973. At that time, they had reduced the drinking age to 18 yrs.old; Viet Nam
was winding down (don't get me started on that one!), and I was a "HIPPIE"!
So to answer your question---they had just stopped the "draft" (lucky or what)?
If I was called, chances are, I wouldn't even been out of "basic training", before WE
started to retreat! Viet Nam won that one!

Was in for 6 yrs. Seabee's are in the construction business so it's at least somewhat understandable for them. There were alot of other augmentee's getting sent for guard duty from the Navy though. Main reason I decided not to re-enlist, probably would have been sent when I got to my next command.

Provided you don't run it into Seamounts the Sub itself isn't all that dangerous. Lot harder to get shot at underwater.
