The Dink Network

I downloaded the original Dink Smallwood a couple of years ago, but just discovered you creative dmod developers several months ago. (Thank You!!) My front end now lists fourteen dmods, and I have no social life.

I'm working on SOB right now, and loving it...but I've come to a point where I'm simply not sure that I can proceed. I'm on story four, punched the guy a few times and he told me where to find the herb boots, but every time I go near the water in that spot I appear to drown (like quicksand with a splash...). There's no mention of anything like this in the walkthrough, I've searched the web and these boards...nothing...and I'm desperate.

Arrg, just thought that I had a brilliant idea and made sure that the scorpion was dead before I tried to walk through the water, and I splashed in and died again. I'm really looking forward to completing this one, I hope that I'm just being a dufus and I'm in the wrong place or that I missed a crucial step...

you're in the right place (I think) but are stepping in the wrong spots. Once you kill the brown scorpion you can walk forward, carefully in a line straight West. Then be careful where you tread on the sand on the next screen.

Yeah! Thanks, Simon. That worked...don't know what my problem was, plunging to my death into the water thirty or so times. I couldn't get into the water from the center of the sand, so I kept trying near the sand dollar, thinking it could be a placemarker. Ah, well, that part's done.

I have another small (??) issue...I did discover the 'Ultimate Cheat' deal...(and since I'm much more interested in the puzzles of the story than in hours on end of killing pillbugs, that's very cool) and I noticed today on the walkthrough that I cannot have a strength over 30 to get this jewel. However, when I try to reduce my stats by 10, my screen freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-del my way out of SOB, and then when I finally get back to windows my desktop size and color settings are changed. My computer has been acting funky lately, so this might be way off topic and not anything that any of you can advise me on, but I thought it was worth a go.

I've had to CAD out of Dink a few times too. It's indeed common that your screen will appear in 640*480, and probably in the Dink Pallete.

There are DMods with anti-cheat-scripts in them, but I don't think SoB was one of those.

No anti-cheats as such... but yeah, if you're too strong you will kill the lady, so if you have more than 30 strength/attack with your fists you're in trouble for cheating

Is there a way to get into something and manually reduce my stats? Or...something? I still can't reduce my stats for some reason.

It has been three days since I made any Dink progress, and my life suddenly seems very dull and pointless.
