Memorable Dink Moments
So here's a quick poll... what are (at least) 3 of the most memorable moments of the top ten DMODs for you?
First 3 moments you remember/associate with playing the DMOD that pop into your head when you read/hear/think about:
Pilgrim's Quest
Crosslink
Dink Goes Boating
Prophecy of the Ancients
Quest For Dorinthia 2: Island Revenge
Stone of Balance
Lyna's Story
World of DinkC
Isle of Croth
As Good As Eternity
Cycles of Evil
(And yes, I know this list goes up to 11...

Well, I haven't played them all, but a few of my most memorable moments are...
Wandering through the ice in Crosslink, searching for a cave big enough for the villagers to stay in. This was a excellently scripted quest, with a decent, well mapped area to explore, as well as more of Paul Pliska's brilliant scripting. Ice cracking around Dinks feet, and the way he shivers when he gets out spring to mind.
World of DinkC? I'm going to have to mention the VERY beginning of the game here, just after you have clicked on start. The way the music kicked in as the error was found... excellent work from Simeon!
Lyna's Story was just "cool". You could slip off cliffs, the addition of the new tiles (with the winding road up a cliff) just made these d-mod so refreshing. It's just so different to any other d-mod. It just ties into the Dinkiverse so well (Dink is at the Valley of the Talking Trees while the adventure is going on). And the palette change worked excellently.
Cycles of Evil had great music, though the fairy midi. grated quite quickly. As did the fairys : "Have Heart!". But when little Billy goes nuts, and goes after the mysterious man in the house... that is one hell of a moment!
I would write some more, but I haven't played many of the d-mods through.

Thanks for that... any response is gonna help me...
But articulate ones like these are really good.

Ah, i remeber in Stone of Balance how you could choose not tyo save the world at the begining.
"All we can do now is pray."
"Would you like to pray in my chambers or yours?"
"Mine sound good. I'll bring the lube"
(or something)

its not on the list, but i really like legend of tenjin, how there are cool little side quests, ie working at store and the race, it gives a unique feel to the dmod.
Prophecy of the Ancients... first dmod I ever played, kept changing into a Bonca, just for the heck of it, emailed Dukie as I couldn't figure how to change into a slimer, after finishing POTA I figured I could beat anything..
Well OK, I was wrong

My first dmod I played was mistery Island, the next was pilgrim's quest. I really liked that dmod, but I got stuck, so I began playing prophecy of the ancients, another good dmod. Mean me, cutting somebody's water suply... Finally I found pq out again and got stuck again for a too low agility, dang it. It just couldn't raise... and I needed some cheat. But after the skill was higher I changed the cheat back, I felt a bit ashamed
. Also the brothel is pretty cool
. And sob,if you want to make a dmod that's bigger you've got to use vissions to the ultimated way...

i still remember one of the first dmods i played, isle of croth. after seeing those nude pics in 8-bit, i fell in love with simonk. so sob and pq were the next ones i played and finished.
Is this restricted to "the" top ten D-Mods, or are you asking for moments from our top ten D-Mods?
At any rate, I'll start out with the mods I've played that you've included on the list.
Pilgrim's Quest - Having to wander about finding a load of Honour potions in order to continue the quest was a standout annoying moment. The escape near the end was pretty cool, as were the new spells. I also remember the bit where I thought "It's going to go all FFVI, isn't it..."
Crosslink - Mostly the references to the original dink are what stuck in my mind - it really used the material. The exploration of the ice area was pretty cool as well, with the cracking ice and the search for a cave.
Prophecy of the ancients - the new spell system was interesting, as was the bit where you blocked the river, which wasn't anything i expected. And, of course, the bit where you thought "it's going to go all FFVI now, isn't it..."
I won't dwell on FB3 yet, as it's not on your list, but again there was the "it's going to go all FFVII now, isn't it..." moment. How about a D-Mod where I actually get to save the world for once, eh?
Lyna's story - the superb level design, with the winding cliffs and the ledges you could drop off. The alternate combat system with different types of arrows seemed a little underused. The interesting new monster types in the dark world (like the exploding slimes and the spitting boncas).
World of DinkC - the postmodernism of it, going into a seperate D-Mod in order to retrieve an amulet etc. The way it was ridiculously easy all the way through before suddenly going into a massive difficulty spike right at the end. The recurring characters were well done.
As good as eternity - The way it had such an enormous map with barely anything on it, except for a tiny quest in some villages. The way it suddenly became fun at the end when you got the strong sword and magic and actually went up against some monsters.
Cycles of Evil - the change on the dragon statue over time was interesting. There were a couple of standout moments in the plot - the mother bizarrely running headlong into the fire, the old man being resurrected for a reason, etc.

Thanks for that reply... yes it's only the current top 10 (11) based on the current scores... but maybe I should include all the ones that have been rated as Excellent... as that includes
Quest for Cheese
Mayhem
Green Voice
QFD
LOT
FIAT
Eternal Suicide
And I may well if I get enough responses... may well include it in my next project that is... a sort of tribute thing.
One day I guess I should play Final Fantasy, just to know what people mean when they say... "it's going to go all the FF way..." and I remember getting an email just the other month claiming I had ripped off some other game. Oh well, can't rip something off if you haven't played it, and there are meant to be only seven unique stories... or is that just a myth?
