i have a nifty idea. since the new engine supports mp3 use, why not take advantage of that for those of us who do have fast connections? i have a band now that's looking for something creative to do, and i think we could convert midi's that people send us into orchestral masterpieces (in mp3 format) using all the various instruments we play without much effort, i'm sure. so, what do you guys think?

That's like, totally radical dude. You'd probably receive hundreds of midis though

Mmmm, pizza.
If the DMod author releases it on the DN as the MIDI-version and a separate MP3-pack, or a MIDI and an MP3-version, it's okay with me...

Nice, but don't use MP3. Use OGG. If you use MP3, it is at the DMOD author's responsibility to accept all licensing issues from Thompson Multimedia regarding the MP3 format.

do you have an mp3 -> ogg convertor or know a program that mixes wav files into ogg?

What exactly does ogg stand for? All i know is that Hellsing is in ogg format on the disc my friend burned me, and i had to d/l the core media player. Also, I'm going to be super pissed if i have to start downloading codec with d-mods so thatthey play the media correctly!

Ogg is supported by Windemere because the player is built in. The whole idea behind Ogg is open source music(free) in a compressed format. I'm not sure, but I think anything you can get in ogg is automaticaly free to use!. I read somewhere that Unreal Tournament uses Ogg music. New musicians are also invited to network with it for exposure.

I thought the only concern with mp3 was recording?

Yup. That could be an issue. They have no reason to sue us for using mp3 in freeware, but some things happen without reason. Ogg is better.

so, for those of you who would like to see this, we'll get a head start if you email me at illusivefingers@cableone.net with the midi that you would like us to play. thanks
