I've done all I can in Niv (collected 14 pieces of the thing, including the witch's and trading the light sword), but no portal has opened up to sent me back to town. (My friend, who's completed the game, doesn't understand; the portal was there for her.) Help!

Did you kill the witch and set the children free? Did you poison the bad guy in the inn?

Yes, witch killed (kids gave me a piece of the amulet), poisoned the guy, traded the light sword.... My girlfriend doesn't understand why the portal isn't open; she says she thinks I've done it all. p.s. I have 14 of 27 pieces (which includes buying the guy's 5 pieces twice).

I can't remember. Let me go look at saved games. Someone else might help you in meantime.

Sorry, dont' have a saved game at that stage of play. Try reading all the posts on this game to see if there's something similar to your problem. Also you can e-mail Raven and ask him. There is not a walkthru on this game unforturnately and Raven has changed it some. I don't know why you can't go thru the portal.

I'm having the same problem! Just after I poisoned Flux, I get out of his house and say something like "now lets find a way back" and the portal is gone...

I don't know whether it's just a glitch, but I played the game again and did not have that problem. The portal was there. Go figure.

In order to get the portal back to the town you have to kill Elrand. Remember the Major said there would be no portal until the two pieces of the Raven Staff were returned. . .
