I've gotten my claw sword, and have read the intro, and quite a few other things, but I can't seem to figure out how to get out of the first town...

I've been thinking that leaving the first town is linked to that rock that has rune markings on it, but I'm not completely sure. Could somebody please tell me how to get by there/get to the next area?
