Is it just me or does the military make people more like robots? I'm not saying that people in the army are stupid, but it seems like they are more dehumanized. This is probably the point of the military, to be objective not subjective, but it's something I just recently noticed.

Not robots. Unquestioning obedient soldiers, yes. Apparently, questioning orders while fighting the enemy isn't considered to be a good quality, so they try to cut the possibility of that happening through psychological adjustment during boot camp and the like.

The above is just a random thought, and I don't have any proof, so if it makes you mad, I'm sorry, but you're probably right.

Not at all.
I recently met this American guy (from South Georgia) in my pub, and started chatting to him. He is certainly not a robot, and has a whole oad of personality.
Your comment sounds a bit sterotypical to me, but I can see where it is founded, as I have met quite a few soldiers who are nothing more than cyborgs.

I didn't mean that they are robots, just that replying "Sir Yes Sir!" is a lot more robotic than "Go fudge yourself!".

Of course they are not ACTUAL robots, that would be silly. I haven't met anyone in the mlitary who say "Sir Yes Sir" when they are not working anyway.

Well, since I am in the military, let me try to explain why we are 'robots'.

The whole idea of basic training is to train you to do as you are told, to 100% of your ability, and no matter how hard it gets, to keep going. People don't understand this most of the time, but that is the point. Even though some of us, like me, will probably never see gun fire, you ahve to think, what if we do? Would you liek your army going "Oh crap, *crying* I can't take this crap, I want my mommy". Nope, you will want us to be like "Die mother******!! *ratta tat tat*" or else your country will be taken over like a pack of boy scouts.

People also don't understand why Training instructors yell at recruites. But, which is more effective "Please, kindly get off the buss" or "Get off my f****** buss before I skull **** you!".

Basically, the point of a military is to protect the country, and to get crap done fast. We al have 'human' sides. Most of us live a prefectly normal lives. We get married, have kids, go to college, go to clubs. The military here in the USA is pretty much like an 8-5 jobs with more benifits than you can ask for. Any other ignorant questions?

It's a form of disipline.

What is better?

"Do this"

"yeah, ok"

or

"yes sir!"

It's just showing respect for authority, and the disipline ot know that is the person who knows what is best at that time. If they ask you to do something, there is a reason, and do not question it.

I do understand why they act like robots, because it works much better with discipline and everything, I just noticed that that behavior seems almost robotic. I never said that soldiers are robots or even act it all the time. After all, what robot keeps saying to me "fudge you donkey!" other than the terminator?
