Each decade of gaming has its good and its bad. Many games have good games with great storytelling, others are terrible with good graphics (For their time).
It's tough to decide between pioneering in gaming and personal favorites, I want to say 90's though, from what I know it had the most new features and great games. If it's just be personal favorites I'd say the time when Super Mario 64, Gex "Enter the Gecko", Fable, and Mercenaries/Destroy All Humans would fit in.
