Re: Rant time!
I've been thinking about sexism lately... and its pissing me off.
Its probably because i watched that episode of the Bill Cosby show...
Here's an example.
Its been said that
For a man to watch a female do a strip routine is degrading to females and heavily sexist. While A woman watching a MAN do a strip routine is perfectly fine. And apparently we like the attention. Now i'm all in favor of gender equality. But a lot of women nowadays seem to forget the exact meaning of "equality".
People are just getting so jaded about "feminism" that its starting to sort of hit diminishing returns!
I'm not saying there are no sexist men in the world, because i know there is a lot of them.
But there ARE FEMALE SEXIST'S TOO.
Just a rant, hope nobody was offended.
Now what about you guys? Thoughts? Or perhaps something entirely different is pissing you off lately?

I don't like to talk about this stuff too much, because I get pissed off in a hurry, but I agree. It seems that everything can be blamed on men, and nothing that happens to men is a problem. If you try to bring up the problems that men faced, you're quickly labeled a misogynist. A lot of feminist communities on the Internet, meanwhile, have turned to rather vicious misandry (a thing that doesn't exist, according to feminists).
Oh jeez, I can't even get away from anti-feminists at the DN? I guess you guys are everywhere. I'm a feminist. I'm male. And I'm proud to make that known.
This topic is so contentious, so emotional and so large, that there's not enough room or time to discuss it properly at a forum for a video game. That being said, all you guys who are upset over feminism and feminists: You are wrong about it. A couple of great quotes sum up the whole problem. Lewis's Law says: "Comments on any article about feminism justify feminism." Anita's Law says: "Online discussion of sexism or misogyny quickly results in disproportionate displays of sexism and misogyny."
Yes, men have some sexism directed at them as well. For instance, society seems to think it's fine to mutilate a male baby's sex organ, whereas the same act perpetrated on a female baby is considered a crime. That being said, feminism isn't all about women. Most feminists are also working on fixing male sexism. If you take issue with the word "feminism" itself, then your focus is all wrong.
And yes, there are a few women out there, who also use the label feminist about themselves, who are completely nuts, and say insane things like "all men should be castrated". It's wrong to associate a few outliers with a whole movement, though. It's a red herring. Most feminist are nothing like these. I'm guessing you people also conflate the word Muslim with terrorism, and the behavior of people like those from Westboro Baptist Church with Christianity as a whole?
If you're truly in this to learn, perhaps you will find these resources enlightening. You can find a lot more for yourself, if you're curious and interested. I'm only going to list four, because if these don't get you started, nothing will.
If you're just here to rant about your anti-woman/anti-feminist opinion without an open mind, then this probably won't convince you much... but give it a watch anyway, maybe you'll get a chink in that anti-feminist armor of yours.

I heard a Fenemist said all men are rapists by heart.
I think it was from one of the amazing atheist videos about tumblr.
I cant believe how offended I was.
We like the attention?
I Dont want anybody to see me naked.

Feminism is about making the world an equal place for women. However, since the world pretty much already is an equal place for women, now the word is being thrown around and feminism is being used as an excuse to put women above men.
Which is what will happen. Women will one day take over because men are too dumb to realize this. Men still have this weird macho idea that "since women aren't as good as men, we can give them a little slack".
As for me? I think women do need to be put in their place more often, just like anyone, because if you don't do that to a person, they'll start thinking too highly of themselves. Unfortunately, this isn't what's done with women, which is why they can get away with almost anything, making the world anything but an equal place for both genders.

I'm not a big fan of feminism. Are there no movements that actually strive for equality, and state so clearly in their agenda? (I'm sure there are, just not very well known.)
Words are important, in my opinion. If your movement is called feminism, it draws people who feel very strongly about the rights of women to it. 99% of these people will be women. It is inevitably a woman superiority movement.

Yep, I'm not spilling any more words on this here. Nobody's going to change their mind.
As with Phoenix, I too am a feminist. However, I do feel like those of us who fight for what feminism fights for should choose a new name, not only because the name itself no longer portrays accurately what we fight for (gender equality) but because these nutjobs who highjacked the name are all people associate with feminists now. I agree that men have problems because of their gender but women still suffer more because they are women than men do. I used to hold the exact same opinion as zeddexx, but coming to university and learning about how things really are has changed my outlook.
So yeah, feminism is good, even though I usually hesitate to use the word to talk about myself.

I would like to add this:
Feminists, actual true feminists who believe in gender equality and actively seek to have true equality in that regard, regardless of gender, are noble people.
Self-proclaimed feminists whose actions denote a desire for greater clout over men are not, and should generally be avoided. This type is generally called the 'Straw Feminist'.
Male feminists who only claim to be feminists to obtain girlfriends or wives who are such (Regardless of being true feminists or straw feminists) are not feminists.
(The purpose of that was to let you all know my perception.)
Now, I do not consider myself to be 'feminist', due to the negative connotation therein. However, I do support gender equality. However, I will still hold open doors for women when they enter a building, I will still speak politely to them and refer to them as 'Ma'am' and 'Miss', because that is the polite thing to do.

KrisKnox is cool
I try to avoid the subject because it always culminates in an explosive argument. Yes, I think women deserve courtesy and to be honest, I think in the developed countries they do have it (posting a YouTube link to a one-in-a-hundred tiny oh-my-God-this-is-so-misogynist event won't change my mind) but most of the so-called 'feminists' are just bored people who make a great big hullabulloo over an 8-year-old hentai game just for the heck of it.

A number of my friends were arguing with me that, actually, women like to be ogled when sunbathing as it is a compliment.
I asked them if they would like to be ogled by a group of large, grossly muscular homosexual men while lying half-nude and alone.
they looked sheepish and changed the topic.
