They aren't adults only because only adults like them. They are adults only because SOME adults like them and that kind of thing should not be shown to children. It is assumed, by the time you reach adulthood, that you are smart enough to know what you do and don't want to see.

For example, letting your 6-8 year old kid watch south park...? NOT a good idea, folks! South Park is about satire and an 8 year old kid is NOT going to understand that, especially with the not very satisfactory way it's done in the show. And if you don't really understand the material, it's a show that will mostly make you dumber.
Unfortunately with the proliferation of the internet (a great thing) some bad effects have arose like children having much easier access to "adult" materials.

I have already said why they are called adult. It is not because all adults are supposed to like them, but because children are not supposed to be exposed to it.
Adults shouldnt be exposed them either porn make me fell sick in the stomach just as much as a Adult.
