Re: Can't install DMODS in Win7
Just got a new PC with Win7. As a longtime Dinker, I came here and downloaded my favs and a few more DMODs.
Great. But I couldn't get them installed so that Dink Frontend would load them. I just have the downloaded packages.
Installing them has always opened and named the folders where the DMOD will be found. I don't know what names the folders will require, nor how to get the download to install the files there.
There's got to be a way to get them to install, but I don't know what it is. When I had W98SE, it wasn't a problem. It's different now.
Can someone guide me here?

There was recently a thread about this. Perhaps it will help.
Well, I installed DFArc3, and it will launch with two stories, Dink original and Mystery Island.
I have put the Cheese downloaded file into a separate folder, "Cheese" in the big Dink folder, which has always been customary. When I click the downloaded file, it calls up the original FrontEnd, and when I allow it to play Cheese, it only plays the original Dink "Loading..." theme in a black window.
I guess I have to get DMODS to default to using DFArc instead. Then I have to know how to get DFArc to unpack all the DMODs and put them on the list, for launching - probably in their own folders, too.
I'm still stumped.

I mucked around and found how to install the DMODs into DFArc. Some (most) of them won't run, because they can't find a tilescreen. A faulty download might explain it, except it happens too often.
So I still can't play most of them.
One other thing. When I Alt-Tab and then return to a running DMOD, the graphics get screwed, with lots of false glaring colors. This is probably a flaw of my monitor or my graphics media accelerator drive, but I don't know how to adjust any of those things. Can you suggest a way?

I'm running Windows 7 (32-bit) and I've been able to get every DMOD I've tried to work fine using the Windows version of GNU FreeDink. Other versions of Dink had problems I couldn't work around.
I was having trouble with installing DMODs until I edited the permissions for the "Dink Smallwood" folder and gave myself "Full Control" permission. If you install outside of Program Files, this might not be a problem.
Which version of Dink are you using? if it's the standard 1.08 or Aural+, maybe you should try FreeDink.
