Georgie Porgie -- updates, sneaky peeks and more.
So after some deep and profound 'brain things' inside my head, I have decided on creating a development thread for Georgie Porgie, my upcoming D-Mod about the murder of George and whatnot.
The inspiration for this D-Mod was this thread, so thanks a lot dinkulum.
At first, it was just about Dink killing George and feeling bad, but then I made the plot a titchy bit more absurd and made it that a voice in Dink's head demanded a funeral (fluent English, by the way, not goblin gibberish. Guess goblins are a lot more good dead. )
I'm not going to spoil it anymore, but I'll post development updates and stuff here, including news about delays if any. (What? I'm the only developer and budget is so dang tight )
Sparrowhawk, it would be nice if you link to this thread in the Upcoming D-Mods thread.
Sneaky peek ... kinda a credit to Robj I guess. And yes, it's the only good looking one I have as of yet.
More news to come, if any.
From yours truly.

Sounds like it could be pretty good, I look forward to it
And OhMyGoodness there's a pirate!

You need to work on the map way more if every screen is as bland as that one.
Bah ... I think it's good, tried making it a bit more fancy and the whole screen looked scrunched up.
Maybe a few details next to his house and some rocks on the ground and a well, but that's all I'll bother adding. Don't want to make it too sweet.

Sounds great! And you're welcome. I'm glad my neurotic conscience could be an inspiration for you.
You really need to put more effort in. What you said sounds like you'll deliberately let your D-Mod be bad just cause you can't bother to make it even the slighest better. You sound a lot like me making my first D-Mods.
And besides, it's not really about what you think of your D-Mod. It's about what others think, and right now I think it needs more work for me to enjoy, so I'm giving you the advise of putting more effort in.
EDIT: Oh, and I like the pirate. It's awesome.

I like the look of it. The pirate is a nice touch. Finish it, cause I want to play it!
A rock with a tree next to it in the top left corner .
This map look A LOT better than in your earlier D-Mods!
(Still really boring though, I've got to agree with Skull.)
Keep working! You are getting better.

I agree with this to an extent. If you change your D-Mod to please others too much, it won't be fun for you anymore. Accept all the constructive criticism you can, but make sure it's not based entirely on what others want.

I agree that making D-Mods should be fun. But you can't go too far with that, because good games aren't created by just slacking around.
Ok, you're right. I'll add some stuff, maybe a well ... or what Mrgantoe suggested.
Once my exams end I'll work doubly hard on it
Also, if I kept adding trees I couldn't find a place to dang end them

I dont think people can judge your dmod mapping from one screen bubba, its possibly needing a few bushes but there is a lot going on in that screen already - some screens just need to be more plain than others. Worry about the details after you have finished - then take a look and maybe go back and add stuff if you want Thats my opinion anyways.
As I said before, it's not my laziness, it's that the screen looks crowded.
But I'll add a tad bit here and there.

A piece of news.
I deleted the music in .wav format, making my D-Mod 20 MB lighter. I'm off to find some MIDIs, .wavs suck.

AVAST, YE COOKIE!
That is Gold.
That is Gold.
Actually we're out of gold, and silver. So he'll have to get bronze abs. But you can still claim it to be first.
Oh, just give me a cookie, will you?
I did more mapping on the existing screens, now they look better IMO.

Please, Predator. While I do understand you're mad at Doodler, don't you think you should at least give him a chance that he might create a good D-Mod. Besides, it's not nice to flame on another person's development thread.
Hopefully DinkDoodler, you'll actually use some time on this one, and it could be quite good.

It is going to be released, and no, it will not suck.
I'm not gonna rush it up.
What about your D-Mod predator? How's it goin'?

Yeah, small, but it's there. You can see how twisted Windows 7 is.

I have no trouble with dmodding on win 7 It has to be how its set up somehow...
Is that white around your sprites DD? That was caused by a graphics driver upate in win7- messed with mine as well so i uninstalled the update and its perfect now. It was about 2 (graphic) driver updates ago (may help u locate it)
That gets very annoying for adding sprites because you can't see them in the editor any more with all the white all over the place. I dunno how to fix it unless you also uninstall the driver updates or you could look for more updated ones and try that - but if your dmod is gunna be bigger than that it will drive you NUTS best of luck huh

I hate automatic updates. Now where do I find this evil update? *grabs dagger*

Turns out, updating my Windows drivers fixed it. So now I'm able to at least see what I'm doing.
It's delayed to October 2012.
I'm taking a break from D-Modding.
I'm taking a break from D-Modding.
Great. Maybe this site will have an automatic D-Mod rejector by then.
We would need that for Historical Hero II, would we not, Skull?
Anyway, I kinda exaggerated back there. It's July 2012, not October.
Actually, it should be December 18, 2012. Or December 24
My D-Mod will be worse than CC2, and judging by the time CC3 is taking, it'll be worse than that, which will probably be the best D-Mod in history.
HH2, if it will turn out like I planned, will be somewhere around the Quest for Dorinthia 2 - Prophecy of the Ancients level.

My laptop's HDD broke, so I've started this again from scratch. In a way I'm almost glad that this happened, because I'm gonna make it better now. I'm currently back to the point where Dink takes Georgie's body to the woods.
(If MsDink is reading this, I need the bloodless goblin body .bmp again )

Needs more sneak peeks.
New release date: July 2012.
A shame the pirate isn't using old graphics, or you could make it a contest entry

Oh, you remembered! I'll take it! Words fail me! I'm speechless! HAHAHAHA - Ah who am I kidding? WHEN AM I EVER SPEECHLESS?
I haven't worked on it for quite a while - while I used to do one screen a day, it's now dropped to one monthly screen (sue me) but since someone has interest in it, I'll speed up.
Besides, I have school and nothing

Does anyone here even play D-Mods anymore? Just noticed the lack of development/modding I went back to D-Modding and in all honesty I was so rusty I couldn't even remember how to write a script to make Dink move. I'm workin' on it!

I might play once in a while but Dink has passed he's prime 1997-2005 in my opnion.
90 percent of the good dmods was made in that era.
My first post on the forums was in i think september 2009 before that i just downloaded d-mods.

I started playing them again recently and realized it's still fun Sure, there are less d-mods, but that suits me just fine and I would say the average quality is higher than the average quality of the past. It's like quality over quantity these days in my eyes.
quality over quantity
Thats why i did not release Redneck Dawn

Potentially bad d-mod > nothing though
Potentially?
ah no it WAS a bad dmod you never saw it and i dont think you would want to see it anyway.
