I don't know what subject.
When i checked my profile,i saw a text saying that i'm currently a peasant. Is it some sort of ranking system and if it is how do you gain ranks?
Yellow Star = Peasant
Staff
Teal Star = Bard
Purple Star = Noble
Red Star = King/Webmaster
The only way to rank up is to become staff.

Then i'm happy being a peasant, the staff does all the work and gets sweared at all the time.Hey,how about a ranking system for normal dinkers, just for fun.
would be fun, but that ain't happenin' until Redink1 comes
There was a ranking system for contributions, but it was reduced to two ranks(a little, a lot)
due to spam and bad files.

We can make an unofficial one
probaly shouldn't.

I think we should feel free to do unofficial things like that. The board isn't that strict. Especially if the owner isn't going to be around to help us create more of a culture here with more programmed site features, we should build it ourselves with the tools we have.
If you're worried about the blow up with the RRR, that seems like a special case where a staff person usually did it and Skull was asked not to. I doubt it was a blanket statement that no one should do anything organized unless they're staff.

Sounds like something that the ancient members should converse in a mass pm about a ranking system that is subject to change via the vote of the majority of the community
.
Edit:let's change ancients to a group 5-10 voted by the community.

Unofficial would be fun, but it's hard to do when you look through all of a person's posts to see. Or maybe:
We keep our taglines as our rank names and sticky an acievements thread like "been here 5 years and such"..... and a staff guy promotes us when we acieve somethin'?

Possibly I was thinking we'd put it in our biography but then people would have the chance to lie. I like the concept DD we would need the cooperation of a staff member though
.

Oh, a chainsaw would make the cooperation come soon.
vroom vroom!
vroom vroom!

We'd need a staff person to sticky the thread, but if we're only keeping track of the ranks by updating a post, we'd just need someone to keep up with it, like Absolution does with the Steam list.

No, I don't think so...
If someone wants to make a greasemonkey script or whatever that adds ranks though, that's of course perfectly fine.

Interring turn out time for dinkulm to earn some cool points from the vommunity.
WHat worries me is that we are trying to improve but godley has become doubly negative.
So far he says he just disagrees maybe he has something else in mind.
What would you want to base the rankings on? The trouble with Greasemonkey scripts is that they can only work with what's available to your browser, whereas a proper site feature would work on the server side and query the database directly. If a Greasemonkey had to dig around in someone's posting history, it would have to do a lot of page requests in the background (if that's even possible--I only know a little about Greasemonkey), which could add a large burden to the server or the site's bandwidth, which I wouldn't want to do.
Ahaha noobs. Click on Contribute -> Contributors.
The reason it's not immediately apparent is because it's the sort of thing that encourages spamming to rank up.

A little and a lot don't leave much explanation of the person if we had more ranks based on something done on the forum as a forum ranking system should be and not for contributors the noobs that you talk about but I can't see toast would know who to Listen to I remember some one mentioning the social contract even the most stubborn people are more then Likely to be nice with the first encounter with a high ranked person hoping for reward making the community a better place for everyone. Did I pwn

Listen doodler, anyone who doesnt agree with you is negative?
How very ridiculous!
Also the post can be perceived as a personal attack directed at me. And the mods should look into your repeated personal attacks at me.

I disagree with the idea, because I dont want comparisons all the time.
Hey you respect me, I got 6 points more than you.
Also, if that is done, Tal may actually end up with 0 points.
And then the king would lose his respect.

Also add to that the fact that he keeps calling me a dink in the chat.
I did it only once. And that was when you were offending me.
Dinkulum, how about using Greasemonkey to make yourself our new King?
A ranking system would be cool. Yes, cool, but I don't know whether it would really be that much of a requirement. I think it's perfecly fine like this.

I said hi fruitbubba, and I was offending you?
You said a lot more than just that. End of arguement.

I called them noobs because this question seems to be asked every few months and always gets the same answer.
The conclusion is that if you're going to upload a file, it should be for everyone to enjoy. Not to gain some imaginary prize and a little picture next to your name.
But yes you're right. Not having an awards system puts everyone on a level playing field (for the most part) which means everyone is treated the same.
