Idle assistance- solved =Ta scratcher!

Tag - Umm.. tag, you're it? 
My new Shady stranger graphics has an idle sequence - it works - but it only uses directions 3 and 7 yet there is directions 1 3 7 9 included. It is actually not that noticeable, I mean he still idles and I only realised those two directions dont show because I had fixed idle dir 1 and then went to test it and hmm.. not there! I would like it to work if i can... but it is passable as it is.

All pics in the sequences are named right as far as I can see, all sequences are in the ini - anyone have a clue in what I missed pls?

I'm simply a distraction. 
I'll try to recreat the problem and slowly retrace the steps while seeing what happens and if I notice anything I'll tell you though I wouldn't count on anything.

Hmm.. 
I think that's just how it works, dink is not good at handling the 1,3,7 and 9 directions. For exaple you can see that all monster attacks are in 2,4,6,8, as well as dinks idle animations and attacks... sorry...

He has it memorized where as I have to do it on novashell and then compensate on the fact that there completely different animals developing hurts my brain.

Rename to what, they are named as per direction but only 2 of the directions show up when playing?

Err another question
orig graphics/dink/hit/magic = is that the sequence for fireball hellfire etc or is there a different one i have yet to discover?

I mean renaming it from stuff1, stuff3, stuff7, and stuff9 into stuff2, stuff4, stuff6, and stuff8. That would make the idle sequence show off all 4 directions. Would it actually look good? Depends on the graphics, I guess.

Ohh that was ssooooo funny scratchy one - I changed em and he disappeared when he was sposed to be idling (no sprite at all) and came back to walk then gone for the idle again haha but Sighs nope just have to stick with wobbly idle methinks that didnt work either...

Sorry, I toughtlessly put you through some unnecessary trouble there. Renaming the graphics is completely unnecessary, you just need to change the slot they're loaded in dink.ini. For example, if the graphics are loaded in

load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i2- 11 250 33 70 -12 -9 12 9
load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i4- 13 250 30 71 -11 -9 11 9
load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i6- 17 250 36 70 -11 -9 11 9
load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i8- 19 250 32 68 -12 -9 12 9

you would change it to

load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i2- 12 250 33 70 -12 -9 12 9
load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i4- 14 250 30 71 -11 -9 11 9
load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i6- 16 250 36 70 -11 -9 11 9
load_sequence_now graphics\dink\idle\ds-i8- 18 250 32 68 -12 -9 12 9

As IPD pointed out, I think the problem for why it doesn't use all the sequences is likely just how the game works. If you give an NPC sprite a brain 10, it will never use anything but two sequences for walking either.

Nah its probably cause I am "challenged" when it comes to scripting WC - be my fault somewhere not the engine Just have to figure out what I did wrong is all

...Bit challenged in that way as well heh

I didn't tell you to do anything that clever. I'd just slavishly stick to either 1, 3, 7, and 9 or 2, 4, 6, and 8.

Thinking out of the box? It's inconceivable!

I just didnt see why changing the two that worked as helpful - maybe its just as well I dont know whats allowed, so dont have the same constraints in my head..
