How does uploading patches work?

Hey, can someone tell me what the difference is between a patch and a new version? I thought they were kinda the same thing...

Anyway, I've updated Power Of Blood to extend the timers by 30 seconds, fix some typos, fix some errors in the readme and walkthrough, and make the Warrior's Challenges slightly easier. I'm guessing I'd say it was a patch rather than a whole new version, seeing as it doesn't actually add anything new, only fix/improve existing things. Oh, and if I upload it as a patch, I'm assuming I would choose the Upgrade From option, rather than Upgrade To? As far as I can tell it works fine with old save files, but if someone downloads the patch then won't that erase their save files and force them to start off from scratch again? Or do I not upload patches as a .dmod file?

Sorry, I'm still kinda newbie at this side of DMOD's (Patches and New Versions and such...).

Upload it as a new version. Patch means kind of a remake of the game. You have just improved some little thing(s), as far as I understood. Besides, I think the patch upload system is broken, so you have to upload patches as new versions anyway.

Oh, NOW YOU'VE DONE IT!
A patch contains only differences from the previous release. For example if you found out there were a few bad sound files, or you left something out you'd simply package them up on their own meaning that when it installs it overwrites or adds to the dmod directory in this case.

What you're suggesting is a new version which is not a patch unless you're just packaging the altered files. When installing dmods it will only overwrite a file if it already exists.

Love! True love!
Yeah, I think you have to upload it as a new version.

Yeah, the idea is that people who have already downloaded the original file don't have to download the whole thing again. Not really worth doing, unless the file is really huge.

Also, you could do something zany, like upload an optional patch that changes all pigs into cute kitties that bleed profusely, adds R-rated stuff, or whatever.

The patch upload system is broken??

Can I ask if you fixed the glitch where you read the note - fight lots of enemies and if you accidentally hit the wrong key whilst fighting near the table, it freezes and you read the note again and all the enemies you just killed come back and you start that bit again from scratch?

Uh... wut? No-one told me about that I guess I'll stick up another pending new version in front of the current one. Seeing as I'm doing that, has anyone else found any bugs I could try and fix while I'm at it?

test it out yourself though - it could just be me - I seem to find things that others dont get - so ... worth trying to replicate before you spend time on a fix.

No, you were right! I'd actually already got code in place to stop that happening, but it seems that I'd made a typo in one of the variable names which is why it wasn't working properly. All fixed now though! Also found and fixed another bug involving the warriors trial, which is good.
