The Dink Network

Far be it from me to be a social media scenester, I've just started using Twitter. It's a pretty awesome bit o'media, surprisingly. I'm strongly considering making an account for the DN.

Does anyone else here use it? If so, why? Who do you follow? Why do you follow? Follow do you follow?

I do not use Twitter, nor do I have any plans for using it in the future. But a Twitter account for Dink does sound... cool, I guess.

It would be, you know, useful.

Updates to your phone/browser whenever new files are uploaded, when there is a new contest, when an interesting topic is thriving, general banana information... stuff like that.

Really, it depends how many people would bother using it.

Well, true. When lots of people upload files and staff approves them all at the same time, your phone is going to beep 10 times in a row.

I use twitter every once in awhile. I don't really get on it alot though. I mainly follow people I know personally and get thier updates for thier blogs. And I follow some celebrities because Its kinda neat to see what they are talking about. But overall I don't use but every other month or so.

Twitter is garbage.

We might as well get a TDN page on Facebook.

That's a good idea but we should put it on something a little better.

Like maybe a myspace TDN page.

EDIT: Actually I think Sharp already had a TDN page somewhere. Not sure if it was facebook or not.

We already have like, two facebook pages. I don't use myspace, but I do use twitter and if there was a Dink one I'd follow it.

Using twitter? That would require that I have at least a semi interesting life.

Umm... Twitter certainly is useful if you want people to know you're taking a crap etc.

For real, I do think Twitter could be useful. I just don't see the point of it for Dink. Let's have a voting!! Yes or no?

No. Though TDN itself is pretty random at times, there are other times when it is actually serious. I don't want to post something serious and have a bunch of Non-Dinkers screwing it up for entertainment value. If every post I made ended up on Twitter, I wouldn't be able to share some of the thoughts that I can freely share without too much repercussion. Think of it this way, I post a topic about my brother, who has recently left to prepare for Afghanistan, and a bunch of people who know nothing about me or my family say something along the lines of 'I'm so sorry to hear about that!', Not only would it be deeply insulting to me, my family, and my brother, but I would change it into a full-scale flame-war because of it. I don't need people knowing half the things I say here.

I doubt that would happen anyway, Kris. I believe what goes to Twitter is only what the user (in this case the user would be SabreTrout or whoever he has thought to use as his puppy) would write there.

Krisknox: I don't think you understand what Twitter is. Why one Earth would we/I tweet your posts from here? Also, non-Dinkers wouldn't want to subscribe to the account anyway.

The twitter would just announce when new files are released, keep people up to date with any changes on DN, new patches, interesting topics on developing d-mods, etc.

If people don't want it, I won't bother - but if it's something people would use, then I'll implement it.

I'd prefer an RSS feed to twitter, but I understand that such a thing needs changes to the site's engine.
