This tutorial is a good source for information on hardness editing. Although Paul doesn't pretend to know all the answers, the information he does provide is both insightful and useful. The following topics are covered...

Types of Hardness: Defines sprite hardness and tile hardness, the latter of which has two types; normal and low-hardness.

Sprite Hardness: Explains how to edit and apply the hardness of sprites.

Copying Hardness Tiles: Explains how to apply hardness to tiles by choosing from a list of roughly 800 different pre-drawn shapes.

Editing Hardness Tiles: Explains how to edit the hardness of tiles by hand (offers a warning on the potential problems this can create).

FAQ: Very short, but good for what it is. Explains how to make a bridge and how to make the hardness of houses.

What is this tutorial missing? In my opinion, a map of the pre-drawn hardness shapes discussed in the "Editing Hardness Tiles" section. This can be a real pain to cycle through, and the low-hard shapes appear to be blank until you stamp them on the screen, so there's no way of knowing what you're going to get until you stamp it!!
