Applying Dink Palettes in GIMP
This is a great tutorial, even if it is a tad promotional for Linux based programs.
The one thing missing of course is the ability of batch processing files with the dink palette. the Gimp can't do this... but Photoshop can, and so can PSP from v8 (or so I believe).
Also not covered is appling a palette while maintaining the indicies (which is what you need to do when doing a screen grab in DinkEdit or the main game). This is fairly vital info.
Dinker's pal seems to be able to batch process, but can't apply a error diffusion process to the procedure. This process and it's importance are explained in this tutorial. Read it for more info, it's not a large download.
Good for those people who want to use the Gimp and apply the palette.

The GIMP is one of the best image manipulation programs out there. Comparable to paint shop pro, but it's free! the GIMP does take some getting used to, but once you've gotten the hang of it, it's a piece of cake, and so much better than PSP.
This is a smallish tutorial that i have created, showing, step by step how to add a palette to an image in the GIMP. It is written in HTML, so anyone with a web browser can read it.
The tutorial is writen in two parts, with numerous numbered steps, and images to show you what the gimp looks like. Using this tutorial, you can't go wrong.
You can get more information on the GIMP from www.gimp.org.
