Awards: Even More MADNESS
Posted by Tal on Wednesday March 2nd, at 06:50 PM
Lots of voting has commenced, yet lots of voting shall ensue... let us discuss them, shall we?

The December 2004 DOTM voting has finished, and Ric takes the cake with the aptly-named Blender tutorial BlendTut. Since many Dinkers have become interested in using blenders lately (strange fad, I know), Ric has done us all an admirable favor by writing a Blender tutorial. Congrats to him, as well as the runners-up!

In addition to that, the nominations for the DOTY 2004 D-Mod and Development categories have ceased, and the results bring to light a great same-digit conspiracy. There were four-way ties in both, and while the Dev finalists still came out to the typical 5, there are a whopping 8 D-Mod finalists due to circumstance. Should you wish to vote in the Ultra Super Duper Spectacularly Splendid and Great Download of the Year 2004 finals, you may do so through the following links: D-Mod, Dev, and Misc. Will Cloud Castle 2 show Initiation its Conclusion, or will Initiation tear through Cloud Castle's very foundation? Or, better yet, will another D-Mod rise against them and topple them both? Will the mysteriously nothing-like None take top honors for the Miscellaneous category a second year in a row? Will someone explain to me why the Initiation Trailer is under Development? All these questions and more may be answered during the finals!

Finally, even in the face of something so great as the Download of the Year 2004 Finals, let us not forget that voting is also open for the January 2005 Download of the Month! Files up for the award include the Dink of Draconicness' Dink.ini Rewrite, the Source of a Pilgrim's Quest from a psy monk, rabidwolf9's not-quite-Ultimate-in-name Ultima Cheat, and the Dink of Hollandness' seemingly-completely-ultimate Ultimate Challenge.

Vote before March 8, or forever hold your peace!

Awards: Revenge of the Son of the Daughter-in-Law of MADNESS

I'm quite tired (from standing in front of the car) and exhausted (from standing behind the car), so I'm going to make this a quick'n.

The results for the January 2005 Download of the Month awards are in, and Simon's Pilgrim's Quest Source has taken top honors. Apparently, people are interested in some of the lovely scripting behind this D-Mod. Me, I've still yet to play it, but I'll get to it one of these days.

Also, the results for the Download of the Year Awards 2004 are in! The top honors for the Development award went to SimonK for his ultra-convenient DinkC Reference (Windows Help File). It took Seth's original DinkC Reference, Ted Shute's insightful amendments/comments, and Simon's own further commentary, then merged it all into one easy-to-browse Help file worth a look for any aspiring developers.

The recipient of the Miscellaneous File Award is Merlin, who designed the also-ultra-convenient DFArc. Though it was praised for many other reasons, DFArc's most significant accomplishment was that it finally relieved Dink newbies of the pain and confusion involved in installing D-Mods.

Finally, taking the highly-revered D-Mod award was Sir redink1, who crafted the Brilliant Masterpiece Cast Awakening Part 1: Initiation. Coming in second place - and certainly worth a mention - is Cloud Castle 2: Scarab, by SabreTrout and Arik. Though I can't truly decide which I prefer, and I haven't played the final releases of either, I enjoyed all the time I spent beta testing both of these brilliantly-crafted D-Mods. They're certainly worth your time.

Congratulations to all the winners and runners-up, and good luck to those who aspire to win next year's awards!

But hey, that's not all... the February 2005 DOTM voting is up and running, so be a good Dinker and put in your vote. There are quite a few files in the running this month, including: Apex, by Hance; Akamb's Goblin Castle; Impossible Scenarios, by NamH666; Stupid Penguins, by Carrie; and way too many graphics for me to bother listing by SimonK. Again, I say... vote now! Yes! Please!

Awards: February 2005 Results!

The other day I was talkin' to De Talmeister. After complimenting his fine watermelon eating performance earlier that day, I said something like "Hmm, that thar DOTM ended quite a long time ago, don'tchathink we should be posting news by now?" He nodded while watermelon seeds slid out his semi-automatic nostrils.

Now it is today, and there has been no... news? He has forsaken you, dear readers. Anyway, here are the results:

The Legend's Tale Dragon won with a whopping three votes. Because of SimonK's spammage many files released last month, he sort of split the vote, and almost lost it to Carrie's Stupid Penguins (which got two votes). Congratulations!

Found D-Mod: ABCDEFGH...
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday March 29th, at 10:59 PM
For some reason, ehasl has resurrected his D-Mod called ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ. He originally released it who-knows-when, and he asked that I take it down. Now he wants it back up. Maybe he likes bungee jumping, I don't know.

Anyway, it is a really horrible D-Mod that will make your fingers dismember themselves into sub-quantum particles, so I would not recommend playing it that much. But, if you're curious... I might have exaggerated a tiny bit just now.

New Graphics: Houses
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday March 29th, at 11:00 PM
Relative newcomer dinkme has released a graphics pack containing a few houses. They're a bit on the simple side, but they might work in your D-Mod. Check them out.

New Graphics: Mutant Kitty
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday March 29th, at 11:09 PM
SimonK's dementia produces many a curious unbananay creature, such as this 'Mutant Kitty'. Apparently, SimonK's dictionary of dementia is unusual:

mu·tant. adj. Used to describe how something is slightly larger than normal, and has a weird spider thing on its back.

New D-Mod: Zach the Marine

A Chaotic force has unearthed a new D-Mod: Zach the Marine. From the title, I assume there is a guy named Fred who sells flowers.
