Chat meetings - yea or nay?
Posted by allikitten on Sunday July 6th, at 09:05 PM
A couple of times this summer, I've thought about hosting chats. And each time I question whether anybody would actually attend said chats. Now, rather than question this for myself yet again, I'd like to put it out there for you dinkers to comment on: if I host chats, will you attend?

Read comments for specificer (if that's a word... well, it is now) questions.

Posted by redink1 on Monday July 7th, at 05:10 PM
Magicman has released a new file that might be of use to D-Mod developers, which he dubbed Cooltext. It shows you how to over-ride the original 'talking to nothing' and 'no magic' dialogue.

Awards: June 2003 Voting
Posted by redink1 on Thursday July 10th, at 10:43 AM
The ever-forgetful staff of The Dink Network seem to have a knack for forgetting deadlines. In that vein, you can now vote for the June 2003 Download of the Month.

Instead of the usual mix of misc/dev/d-mods, last month there was 7 D-Mods released, including the 5 Evil Hero D-Mods and 2 others.

Recondite Twenty-One: Site Status
Posted by redink1 on Thursday July 10th, at 11:00 AM
Instead of the usual hodge-podge of poll comments and rants, this Recondite will detail a few issues that have plagued The Dink Network over the past couple weeks.

Domain Name

I forgot to renew the Domain Name (dinksmallwood.net) until I started getting reports of it not working. So I enter in my Credit Card information, and all seems well. Then I just checked the status yesterday, and it said that I should have received an e-mail verifying my purchase within a day. By that time it had been nearly two weeks, and I hadn't received an e-mail.

So I renewed it again. Hopefully it should be back soon.

For more non-critical information, view the comments.

New D-Mod + Update : The Ghosts of the Cast - The Quest for the Axe of Destruction
Posted by Kyle on Thursday July 10th, at 01:07 PM
Third in the row and finished in no time, ThinkDink brings us the last part of The Ghosts of the Cast trilogy : The Quest for the Axe of Destruction. Be sure to pick it up on your way out.

Also, Blue had updated his d-mod for the Evil Hero contest, Computer Virus. I have no idea what exactly has been fixed though.

Announcement: Dink Engine Source Code Release Imminent
Posted by redink1 on Friday July 11th, at 11:24 AM
Seth Robinson has announced that he intends to release the Dink Source Code next week.

This is Good News.

Why? Have you ever wanted someone to add multiplayer / high-color / movie-playing / etc support to Dink Smallwood? Without the Dink Source Code, it was nearly impossible to add these features without coding an entirely new engine from scratch. With the Dink Source Code it is possible. It might take an awful lot of work, but it is at least possible.

New stuff : And lots of it!
Posted by Kyle on Tuesday July 15th, at 06:58 AM
To start off with, Glenn has released another d-mod, titled "Victim of Life". It's a small romp and can be found right here.

Next up, a new cheat file by ThinkDink called Dink-Cheataz. It's just a bunch of scripts and doesn't do as much as Ultimate Cheat, but you can still give it a try if you're a cheater or just someone who needs to test his or her d-mod.

And to end with, ThinkDink provides you with an update to his recently released Ghosts of the Cast : Quest for the Axe of Destruction.

Pick one, two or all three, play and come back afterwards for the reviewing.

Site News: Partners Fixed and Updated
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday July 16th, at 05:11 PM
The Partner links have been broken due to the continual downtime with the dinksmallwood.net, so I fixed them.

And, sadly, two of our Partners have quietly disappeared. Tullisti's Beta Testers Roster has gone offline, and with DethLord no longer an active member of the community and subsequent complications with the Dink Directory have left it unreachable.

But, some good news as well. I've always wanted to add some sort of 'Fanfiction' section on The Dink Network, but I've never gotten around to it. However, Kory has started up a Dink Fanfiction of his own. So if you have any neat stories rattling around in the space between your ears, contact Kory and he'll put them on his site.

For more information on these nebulous Partner links, check the comments.

Dink Chat - 20:00 GMT, Saturday, July 19th
Posted by allikitten on Thursday July 17th, at 09:24 PM
There will be an unmoderated chat about the source code on Saturday, July 19th at 20:00 GMT. Check the "Events" on the left hand side of the site to see when that is your time; remember, you must have your board preferences set to your own time zone for the events time to be correctly displayed.
The only topic is the Dink Source Chat, and since a lot of people really want to discuss this, don't come if you only wish to tell us about your pet cat.

New Tutorial: Movie2000
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday July 22nd, at 11:31 AM
Sylvian Beucler and Alexander Schrøder have teamed up to bring you a tutorial covering the forgotten and ghostly Movie2000 feature in DinkEdit.

The developer documentation that came with Dink mentioned 'Movie2000', which most people thought was just a planned feature that was never implemented. This tutorial proves otherwise, and is quite interesting.

Dink Chat - new server, new functionality... and reasons why.
Posted by Phoenix on Wednesday July 23rd, at 12:32 PM
The Dink Chat, although used a lot less than initially planned, will continue to live on. However, the server we're currently using (Liveharmony) has brought up a policy that I do not longer wish to follow, details about that matter can be found here. So we want to change to another network.

Details about the new server and our new functions can be found on the comments page.

Contest: Evil Hero D-Mod Winner Announced!
Posted by redink1 on Saturday July 26th, at 07:46 AM
The Dink Network staff have finished playing through the Evil Hero D-Mods, and have decided that the winner is... Binirit's Twins! Congratulations!

And what game is Binirit going to choose as her prize? She said (really, no joke) "I've thought about what I wanted if I'd won (yes, I did hope for it) and I came to the conclusion that I want to donate the money you would spent on buying an RPG to the DN." As the prize would have come out of the DN Community Funds, the money will just have to go back in there.

For more on how the contest was decided, check out the Comments page.

Posted by redink1 on Saturday July 26th, at 08:33 AM

Updated D-Mod: Legend of the Pillbug v2.00
Posted by redink1 on Thursday July 31st, at 11:34 AM
Nam Hoang has updated his D-Mod Legend of the Pillbug to v2.00. So what's different? The bosses have been rebalanced, spelling, hardness, and scripting errors have been fixed, and there is now a new area to explore.

Dinker's View Three: Smells Like Teen Fish - SabreTrout
Posted by PureEvil on Thursday July 31st, at 04:15 PM
After a disgustingly long time of practicing "lazyism", I've actually got an interview to share. Thanks to all (hey Phoenix and WC) who asked for this to return.

If your on the main page, check out the comments to read on.
