Updated D-Mod: True of Life v1.3 Final
Posted by redink1 on Sunday September 1st, at 09:05 AM
Timo has returned, and has brought with him True of Life v1.3 Final. This new version is said to fix all of the bugs that were in the previous versions. Yay.

He also brings word that he is finishing up the full version of Legend of Parnu, and it might be done within a week or so.

Monthly Happenings: New DOTM
Posted by redink1 on Sunday September 1st, at 12:50 PM
Vote now in the August 2002 Download of the Month. You might find one entry odd... mimifish's Hard Tile Tutorial which was released on July 1st. Due to a mixup, it was added into the July 2002 DOTM just a couple days before it ended. So, it has been added into this DOTM to give it a fair shot at winning.

The Interactive Story section will be taken down today, and I'm not sure if the archives will even be kept up. It started out ok, but eventually descended into anarchic, insulting, and inane 'stories'.

Just a reminder, in order to be eligible for the contest all of the Alternative Hero D-Mods must arrive in my redink1@rpgplanet.com e-mail inbox before 12:01 am September 13th PST. So you have about 35 hours until the deadline.

James Perley's entry is Quest for the Golden Nut, and the dmod.diz says, "This addon tells the story of an adventure taken by a missing duck."

Dan Walma's entry is Cycles of Evil, and it is described in the dmod.diz as, "A small town is affected by evil across generations."

Paul Pliska's entry is Lyna's Story, which he describes as, "One year after Dink adventure, crisis strikes while he is away. No one but Lyna can save the day."

As previously stated, voting will begin next Friday. So you have a week to play these, so have fun!

Joeri has just released his first d-mod called Dink Racer. I haven't played it yet but it sounds pretty good, here is a brief discription. "Grab the gold and avoid the stones, that's what it's all about in this arcade-like game!"

Complaint Chaos 1: Search Engine, It is Not
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday September 18th, at 09:14 PM
Welcome to a new feature on The Dink Network. This will not be one-staff-member-exclusive article, and will be put up whenever, by any staff member who decides to do it.

Basically, people complain in the box. And complain some more because the complaints weren't addressed. Well, sometimes there is nothing to address, or it is fixed and people don't realize it, and so on.

First thing first: The Complaint Box Is Not A Search Engine. It seems some people think it is... with complaints like 'Parizaya', and 'cloudcastle'...

Anyway, view the comments to read the rest.

Mike Snyder's Prowler-Pro Forum Archive
Posted by Dukie on Friday September 20th, at 01:11 AM
For those who remember, former Mod-God Mike Snyder used to run a forum at his site. But almost noone found their way to it lately, so he decided to closed it down. Too bad, but he did send an archive of all the posts since 2000 to Beuc, who kindly handed it over to the Dink Network. Which means you can now access the forum here. It's full of answered d-mod problems and other stuff. Aren't we nice?

Site News: Links Updated
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday September 24th, at 10:27 PM
A year ago the Links page was up-to-date. Unfortunatly over the past year, the Links page just... didn't change. But over the past month, people've been reminding me that I should add this site, change this URL, and whatnot. And so the Links page is now completely up-to-date once again.

I removed most of the dead sites (those that hadn't updated in a year or so). If you still want to see them for old time's sake, Jaina's Dink Links has links to most of the known dead Dink sites.

Congratulations to Paul Pliska, as his Lyna's Story entry for the Alternative Hero D-Mod Contest won with 58% of votes going towards it.

He won't have a little Trophy thing next to his icon yet (I still have to add that code into Miasma) though hopefully I'll get it done when I return from going home for the weekend.

New Dev Music File: Christiaan's Midi Pack
Posted by WC on Sunday September 29th, at 01:45 PM
Good ol' Christiaan has released a new midi pack created from scratch called Christiaan's Midi Pack. (Would you have ever guessed that name?).

*And now a word from you local staff members*

After talking with Tal, I decided to go communist and update the midi pack rules and hope redink doesn't fire me/kill me/molest me. For now on we will only be accepting midi pack with at least 20 midis and a total of 30 min of music. Not to say we don't have some good midi packs here, but I think it would be better if we have fewer bigger packs instead of 45328154 packs with 1 midi in it each. There will be exemptions (like is someone submits a theme based pack (like a midi pack based on a movies sound track), and a really good midi pack that doesn't quite meet the minimum size). let me know what you think.

Updated File: Item Icons Pack v1.2
Posted by redink1 on Monday September 30th, at 09:23 PM

New File: Dink Smallwood on TV
Posted by redink1 on Monday September 30th, at 10:47 PM
TechTV's nightly show, The Screen Savers, featured Dink Smallwood as the Download of the Day. Even though they got a few things wrong (crystals!?), they did mention us (indirectly, "it does enjoy a little bit of cult internet success"), and they punched pigs live on the air. Its too bad they didn't punch the ducks...

Anyway, you can also grab a video capture of the segment here.
