DOTM Time
Posted by redink1 on Friday February 1st, at 07:48 PM
January's DOTM is ready and waiting to be voted for. Tons of stuff this month. DOTY voting might start Monday.

Also, in a totally unrelated note, there probably won't be a Recondite tomorrow. I have a 10 page paper due Monday that I've just started. I'll most likely also be absent from The Dink Network altogether, including the boards and whatnot. Hopefully I survive this weekend, eh?

Bad news, and my departure.
Posted by WC on Saturday February 2nd, at 06:56 PM
I won’t be around for awhile, and maybe not till summer will I be back. I have developed a list of lower back pains with in the last month, and today I was admitted into the hospital for analysis, C.A.T. scan, and alot of other things. I have a growth on my spine which appears to be cancerous, and could possibly put me in a chair for the rest of my life. I'm close to graduation, and from what I am told the surgery's they want to run could take me out of the school for the rest of the year causing me not to graduate. Needless to say, I’ll be here is I have time, but more dire things are at hand for me.

See you guys later. --WC

Discussion Two : Essence of a d-mod...
Posted by Kyle on Tuesday February 5th, at 09:40 AM
Last week I started a discussion about cheating in a d-mod. I think it was quite the success I had hoped for, although there is still a thing I would like to point out : You will not be shot for your opinion. Even though everyone says "A", it doesn't mean you can't say "Z".

Somebody suggested the topic of .d compressing or not, but I will delay that for now since it kind of leans to the precious discussion in a way.

That said, move on to the comments and learn what this week's discussion is about!

Updated Cheat: Ultimate Cheat v2.01
Posted by redink1 on Thursday February 7th, at 08:36 PM
Ted Shutes has updated his Ultimate Cheat to v2.01. The updates include:
  • Incompatability with version 1.2 beacons fixed. (While editing the script, a "replace all" operation apparently got carried away...)
  • Two additional "obvious" variable names discovered; replaced with obscure names less likely to confict with names used in dmod's.

New D-Mod Thingy: Legend of Tenjin Map Changer
Posted by redink1 on Thursday February 7th, at 08:41 PM
Ehasl has released a Legend of Tenjin Map Changer. Basically, using batch files, you can change the maps quite a bit more simply than you could before. Cool.

Update: the newest version is now up. Rejoice.

Janurary 2002 DOTM Winner: Dinky Dimensions 2: End of Time v2.00
Posted by redink1 on Friday February 8th, at 10:53 AM
I just ended voting for the January 2002 DOTM, and End of Time just barely won the DOTM. A strong challenge came from As Good As Eternity, losing by just once vote. The next runner up was Ted Shute's DinkC Reference.

Thanks to everyone who voted.

Note, I'll modify the script soon so it displays who voted for what, so people can tell if anything fishy is going on (this was suggested by the extremely fishy mimifish).

Also, voting more than once doesn't do any good, dinkmega Your 6 votes for End of Time, while appreciated, were in vain. Only your last vote counts.

Well, thats all. Now I'm off for home for the weekend. Hopefully DOTY voting will start soon, Sunday or Monday.

Discussion Three : Review this!
Posted by Kyle on Tuesday February 12th, at 03:32 AM
Some of you may have already seen an extra comment line in their still-to-be-validated review that I inserted to point out some flaws in the review. After they are changed I have always validated it. Unfortunately, there are many that do not get through my (high??) standards and are therefor invalidated. Go to the comments section for the rest!

2001 DOTY Nominations Voting Has Begun
Posted by redink1 on Tuesday February 12th, at 03:01 PM
Rejoice. Yes, redink1 got off his butt and decided to work on getting the DOTY Nomination script up and running. And it didn't even take that long.

DOTY voting is a tad different from DOTM voting. DOTY voting begins with a week of nominations, where everyone picks up to 5 of their favorite entries in each category. Then, the top 5 overall are voted on for the second week. If you have any questions, post a comment.

Recondite Six: Oops
Posted by redink1 on Monday February 18th, at 09:02 PM
Well, I decided to work on the new reviews system. It seemed like a good idea. So I modify an old script to go and go through the reviews database and replace some numbers and junk. I even made a backup of the reviews database, so everything is going rather spiffy. Then, I log in and look at the database... and it hasn't changed. Then I realized something awful... I overwrote the user database. The last backup I had was from January 15th. Dang. Dang. Dang. Dang. Dang. So, the current user system is that of January 15th, if you created an account since then, create another one (with the same exact name). If you modified it (icon, description, etc.), modify it again. Sorry. Feel free to insult my foolhardiness.

Discussion Four : Hosting the melodies
Posted by Kyle on Tuesday February 19th, at 10:07 AM
A while ago, the Dink Network received a lot of midi packs to post and they were all uploaded to the host. The problem is that many of these midi packs just have an amount of random midis with no description (where they came from). The question is whether these undetailed packs should still be hosted, let alone accepted in the future. This time there's no additional information in the comments, except for your thoughts about this.

Anti-Recondite is pure poll comments and links, no drivel (mostly because I couldn't think of anything to write). View the comments to read it.

Discussion Five: sp_size(&dmod, 100 MB);
Posted by Kyle on Wednesday February 27th, at 11:23 AM
A day late, but not forgotten, I present you discussion nr. 5! This time I'd like you to discuss the maximum size a d-mod may be. Would you like to download a 100 MB d-mod if it was very good? Do you think a d-mod that big is not what a d-mod is all about? And if you think the size of a d-mod can only go up to a certain point, tell us what you expect to be in it and what not.
