New Dev Tutorial: The Ultimate Dink File Format FAQ UPDATED
Posted by WC on Tuesday December 3rd, at 11:05 PM
Well, I have created this file so those who want to dink map editing pograms can edit them without having to waste a lot of time trying to figure out Seth's madness. The Ultimate Dink File Format FAQ is just basically a faq showing what all the values of the dink.dat, map.dat, and hard.dat are and where they are. This file is not for newbies, and only intended for those who know how to program, or hex edit, otherwise, you'll have no clue what I am rambling about. Have Fun! (Oh, and let me know if I screwed anything up in the faq)

UPDATE:Thanks to mimifish for pointing out a part of hard.dat I forgot. Sorry...

Recondite is my article, and is supposed to be weekly (though it is never released on a schedule) and is usually a whole lot of crazy rants, stories, poll comments, and links.

Awards: November DOTM Active
Posted by redink1 on Monday December 9th, at 12:21 AM
Wow, I should've gotten this up yesterday... nonetheless, the November Download of the Month is awaiting your votes. Not too many files this month... and the Pilgrim's Quest Blob Pack wasn't eligible because it was previously released (with Pilgrim's Quest).

Voting ends on December 17th. For more details, see the Awards page.

Current Events: Rules of revolution!
Posted by WC on Saturday December 21st, at 07:49 PM
Many people have been questioning our rules here and raising concern on why we have rules and why these rules are here any why they are needed. In fact, most people think that most of the rules are unnecessary and just redink1’s attempt to rule everything that is dink. I want everyone to have a open discussion on this so that everything can be clear and the board blood bath can end again. (Don’t forget to read my opinion on the matter)

Yohoho.
Posted by Tal on Wednesday December 25th, at 01:51 AM
I feel like ranting.

Here I am, sitting at my computer late at night when I should be sleeping, waiting for Big Fat Fictitious Red Dude to deliver my presents...and I must say, it doesn't feel all too Christmassy for me this year. In days long gone, my once-jolly family would spread Christmas cheer around the house the very day after Thanksgiving, and it was the most fabulous time of year for me. My sisters and I would be giddy in anticipation of December 25th, and we'd wake up at about 4:30 on Christmas morning just to stare at boxes for hours until the parents finally trudged out of bed. Shortly after rising, my parents would activate the video camera thingy mabobby (I'm too tired at the moment to remember what it might be called) and tape us ripping through present after present after present. Nothing compared, nothing at all.

While our annual celebration is nowhere near as grand as it was years ago due to unfortunate circumstances, love is still felt all around, even if not as a whole family...the wonderful spirit of Christmas lives on. I try my best to make it as jolly as can be, so I got presents for as many people as I could and shared my wonderful, loving self (kidding, kidding) with others. I once thought that the receiving was the greatest part, but when you give...wow. If you haven't before, go buy someone a little something (if at all possible today) or at least give them a big, warm hug. The satisfaction you get when you see their smile...it's incredible.

So what was the point in writing this? None, really, except to make the obligatory holiday posting here. I'm not a man of words, and I'm not trying to "touch" or "inspire" anyone, but if your point of view on anything has changed, that's splendid. No, really. I like to affect the way people think, even if it's changing their perspective of me from "Wow, you're bright!" to "Wow, you're astonishingly dumb!" Chances are that's exactly what has happened here, but I could care less. You win some, you lose some, and I'm happy with the fantabulous Christmas joy I've won.

Eh...whatever. The one thing I want to get across: Merry Christmas, and happy holidays for those of who don't celebrate it.

Merry Christmas!
Posted by redink1 on Wednesday December 25th, at 11:31 AM
Binirit and Sharp have both released Christmas-themed D-Mods, to celebrate... um... Christmas, I suppose.

Binirit's D-Mod is called Dink Smallwood's Christmas, and weighs in at 1.2 MB. Sharp's is called Christmas Adventure: Search for Santa, and is a lightweight at 350 KB. Neither included much detail, and I haven't tried either, so there shall be no details detailed here.

Discussion Thirteen : The What and What-not
Posted by Kyle on Saturday December 28th, at 10:33 AM
The discussions are back, at least with one addition to the series. This time it's about something that has been questioned lately and what better way to make a decision about this than to ask everyone involved, right?

Should or should we not accept all files sent in? Should we have some kind of Quality assurance to prevent horrid files from appearing? And what about "double" files, such as the God Mode files? In other words, if someone wishes to release a file whose functions are already present in another file, should we still post it?

Get your thoughts rolling and your fingers typing and head toward the comments!

Posted by Tal on Sunday December 29th, at 01:52 PM
Amidst playing with my hair - a highly enjoyable activity - I have found time to upload a file. RustedSorrow has released a Desert Cliff Tiles graphics pack thingy mabobby whatsit whatever. It seems fairly self-explanatory to me, so I won't bother going on about it.

New Files: From the Recycle Bin
Posted by redink1 on Monday December 30th, at 04:32 PM
The following files were sent to me in the past, but I decided not to upload them. That is no longer the case.

Vilius sent us Baywatch Isle, which is a sequel to Baywatch, I guess.

Vegata Inacan sent us some Dink Wallpaper. I was going to create a new category to put it in (something to cover Dink fan fic/art, but I never got around to it).

trav666 sent us some Fall Trees to be used with the Autumn Tile Set.

scratcher sent us DinkEdit Graphics Numbers, so you can see which graphics use what numbers in DinkEdit.

theprophet sent us a Save Scroll spell thingy.

joshriot sent us Skeleton S, yet another Skeleton, which may or may not have been pulled from his closet.

And I would've uploaded ikkejw's God Mode v2.00... but I seem to have permanently deleted it somehow. Oops. Send it again.

New Dmod Demo: Plane Walker
Posted by WC on Tuesday December 31st, at 01:52 PM
My main man SabreTrout has done it again with his latest demo called Plane Walker which weighs in around 2 MEG! It's a very short demo, and the ending it when you get to the 'new land'. (I said new land so I don't spoil anything)

I would also like to thank SabreTrout for fixing the dmod up a bit for us before we uploaded it.

Current Events: Site Construction/Updates Soon
Posted by WC on Tuesday December 31st, at 02:20 PM
With redink working on miasma 2.0 I don't really have much work to do on the site besides the usual duties, I tried to help work on it (there isn't much I can do), but instead I kick back and try to 'motivate' the lazy man. Anyways, I’m going to be working on fine tuning parts of the site. Click the comments to read.
