The Dink Network

Discussion One: To cheat or not to cheat, that's the question!

A few days ago I was thinking about the lack of feedback on controversial topics and I asked Redink1 if it was okay to start a discussion on one of those topics. As you all know, the answer is yes and here it is.

Read the comments of this post for more information.

Rob : Hey Frank, how are you doing?

Frank : Don't ask.

Rob : Not good I guess. What's wrong?

Frank : It's that annoying d-mod!

Rob : You mean **** (The 4 stars do not represent 4 letters, so it's not FIAT

Frank : Of course, what else!

Rob : You stuck again?

Frank : Yeah... I can't beat that freaking boss!

Rob : Well, you know I did beat him. I finished the game a few hours ago.

Frank : Yeah, but you...

Rob : Cheat? So what? That's why Nexis made the Ultimate Cheat in the first place!

Frank : But that's not really fair...

Rob : Why not? Nothing wrong with enjoying the game!

Frank : But it's not fair towards the authors. They spend all their time balancing their d-mod, putting in secrets where you need them, etc... And you don't get the same satisfaction when using the cheats.

Rob : Pfff... What do I care, as long as I can finish the d-mod without having to use my brain too much.

Frank : sigh...

Most of us have played a couple of d-mods and most of us have been frustrated with some puzzle you can't seem to solve or some boss you are unable to defeat.

But is that a reason to cheat? Would you stop playing the d-mod if you wouldn't be able to use cheats? Are you against anti-cheat scripts?

Anyway, that's this week's topic. Discuss all you want, but keep it friendly. The usual Dink Network rules still count, so don't go attacking people or don't express your emotions in any Adult-rated words.

I hope both the public and authors alike will come here and tell us their opinion. If there's a lot of response to this, I'll start another topic next week.
