Not much effort, actually. Since I had the computer connected to the TV when installing, that's how the computer got configured, heh. So I just installed it that way and kept on running it that way. I'm not sure how you're connecting your computer to your TV, so I'm not sure what remedies you need to take, I'm connected using S-Video, though.
Typically, you would have to edit some X configuration to do it. What is your laptop's model and make, and how do you want to connect it to your TV?
