If you don't have an account, just leave the password field blank.
I use Gentoo, but I wouldn't recommend it for a Linux newbie. It's a lot less "Windows-user friendly" than, say, (K/X)Ubuntu. However, it's, to my knowledge, the most configurable Linux out there, and that's exactly why I like it.
