Actually, he/she may already have been to the Temple of the Ancients before the dragon destroyed the village (scroll quests ya know).
Nonetheless, this isn't gonna help him/her get through the cave. What you've got to do in the cave is search each level carefully for hole/stairs. Eventually you'll find a savebot in the lowest level, then go north and meet the Scarab Man.
