Seriously.... you can't take the stairs. You have to cut the rope in one piece of 10m and one of 20. Make a small ring at the end of the first one, and divide the 20m rope in two. This way, you obtain a 20m rope, and after you descend 20m, you can still drag a 20m rope from it.
