: There are some monsters she can handle... skulls, yellow blobs... one or maybe even two frog-bots. But she's no match for the kickers or necro-bots.

: She doesn't have to be kept alive... when you meet the end boss, in fact if you order her to attack at that screen, she takes the Overlord on and let's Dink and priest escape.

: Having a compangion proved to be more trouble that it was worth... although maybe a magic caster is better than a warrior. I intend to explore that in Necromancer.

I just don't understand why she always dies so fast right on that screen. But I guess I found the "trick" just ask her to "wait here" during that fight. I agree with the more trouble than they're worth comment, unless they were extremly powerful I suppose, or just invunerable dink has to work harder to keep them alive than he would just fighting alone.
