If you don't have an account, just leave the password field blank.
Someone else had similar problems a while ago, I remember. Modifying the palette of splash.bmp can cause this. If it's not that, try running the game in 256 colours. (in Windows XP, right-click Dink.exe and check "run in 256 colours")
Does this happen every time? Is your display adapter up-to-date after having formatted your computer? Reinstalling Dink and restarting the computer may help too.
