Thanks! The bench was the key. BTW, the crashing in the mines always happened when I was at a door, and hit attack instead of talk.

Walkthroughs... I dunno, I follow the Dink Solutions link on this page, and it looks like the site has been abandoned (or no news) since Dec 2004. Is Dukie still maintaining it?
