That kinda depends on your own style... What I did first was do the tutorial wich is in the develop folder. (It's called tut1.txt) Then I created my first DMOD by copying scripts from other DMOD's and then slightly editing them. And that's the way I learned it.
But you could also start out with the rudiments of scripting wich is said to be a good file (though I never used it).
There are also quite some other tutorials around to help you. I remember sometimes consulting Tutmod when I had less experience...
