: : Blender is primarily a 3D program (it does have a sequence editor function that lets you manipulate both still images, avis and 3D files), so unless you are using a 2D image to create a texture on a 3D object I'm not certain what you are trying to do.

: Perhaps I am trying to do that. I downloaded Blender, and I thought I could import (or even copy/paste) a .gif of an animation or just a simple 2D graphic into the programme and then, by a simple mouseclick, 'make it' into a 3D. So that you can rotate the image and look at it from 360 degree angle.

: Does this sound dumb? I'm just getting started with it...

I'm afraid that thats just not possable. why?? because gif animations aren't really 3D. they may look 3D, but the file they are stored in doesn't support true 3D animations.... OK, I'm not explaining this very well.... it's like....like... trying to paste a text document into an office suite, and expecting all the fancy formattinmg to be done for you...sort of.. (poor analogy, I'm tired).

you can get a picture behind your workspace, so that you can sort of create 3d objects over it, but you stiull have to model them from the start..

*hint* get a load of those metaballs!! they are soooooo cool. they do chew through the CPU cycles tho...
