Reply to crates, barrels, chests

i'm currently working on a dmod called VOD (probably will never be realeased). I set down barrels, chests, and crates and attatched the appropriate scripts to them, but when you hit them, they open fine, but nothing comes out of them. can anyone explain why this happens or how to fix it?
