Because people love chills and thrills but they can do it safely from the comfort and security of a theater. Also it takes you away from the mundane things of everyday life. It's soaring in freedom and sword fighting with the villain, living a different life for 90 minutes, rooting for the good guy, falling in love all over again, reaching the depths of despair and the glory of the heights, and visiting places we'll never go. It's wonderful, and exciting. The only trouble is to remember it is just a movie. Fanatsy land.
